Verification is not the same as an annual inspection
Verification is associated with applicable installation, extension or modification work. It confirms that the installed fire alarm functions operate as intended and produces project-specific verification documentation.
When verification may be part of the project
- New fire alarm system installation.
- Panel replacement or major retrofit.
- New initiating or notification devices added to the system.
- New or changed control functions, relays or interfaces.
- Extensions or modifications triggered by renovations or building changes.
Typical verification activities
Documentation review
Project drawings, sequences, device addresses/labels and applicable system information.
Device testing
Verify installed devices and their expected system response.
Input / output functions
Confirm applicable alarm, supervisory, trouble, notification and control operations.
Reporting
Document verified functions, deficiencies, corrections and outstanding items.
Before a verification visit
The work is most efficient when the installation is complete, devices are labelled, programming is stable, monitoring/elevator or other required trades are coordinated, and current drawings or system information are available.
Verification support for contractors and property teams
Ward Fire Safety can coordinate verification-related field testing and documentation with the project team. Where engineering, design, permitting or authority review is required, those responsibilities remain with the applicable project professionals and authorities.
